Is your skin ready for summer?

Summer ready skin in a jiffy

With the snow melting and the weather warming up, it is almost that time of the year again where we slowly start putting away our sweaters and scarves and welcome sundresses and shorts. It is also time to assess and treat the damage rich comfort foods and harsh, winter winds have done to our skin. Well, you don’t have to worry ladies. We have compiled for you some of the best and fool-proof tips in this blog to banish dry, flaky skin and get a soft, subtle glowing skin ready for summer.

Exfoliate yourself from head to toe

Exfoliating your skin from head to toe is the first and best thing you need to do in order to prepare your skin for summer. It is done in order to get rid of dry, flaky winter skin. There are a lot of ways to do it, both physically and chemically. Usually, the best way to do it is after the shower when your whole body is wet. Grab a loofah or washcloth and apply exfoliating cleanser of your choice on it. Scrub your whole body with it using circular, tender motions. Don’t go overboard with it and do it twice or thrice in the week. Start on the onset of summer and keep up the routine throughout it as it comes in handy for scrubbing away sunscreen and oil build-up in your skin.

Moisturize your skin afterwards

Moisturizing your skin after an exfoliation routine is a must to keep it hydrated. Also, it will penetrate into your skin better after your have scrubbed off dry, flaky layers.

Swap your skincare products

Just like you put away all your winter gear and take out skimpy, more breathable summer’s outfits, similarly, you need to swap your skincare products with those of summers. For example, switch from a moisturizing cream to a light, moisturizing lotion. If your skin is kind of oilier than usual, then go for a moisture-binding serum to keep your skin hydrated throughout the summer.

Sunscreen is a must

Applying a generous amount of sunscreen before you leave your house is a thing you must not miss at any cost, no matter what the tone of your skin is. Applying the sunscreen before leaving the house is integral as it takes almost 15 to 20 minutes to kick in. It is very important to protect your skin against UVA and UVB rays.  Since it lasts only for two hours or something, reapply it frequently. Also, apply stronger sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher on your scars as the sun can lighten or darken them more than the rest of the skin.

Remove unwanted hair from your body

Remove hair from your legs, underarms, bikini line and whatever part you have been avoiding to shave off during winters. Go for shaving, waxing, hair removing creams or whatever suits you.

Treat rough and cracked skin of your feet

Stomping around in boots all winter and avoiding pedicure usually leaves your feet in a very bad condition. Treat the chapped, cracked skin of your heels. You can use exfoliating creams available in the market or soak feet in Epsom salt for 10 minutes at night. Rub them gently with a grainy scrub and apply a lightweight foot lotion afterwards.

Banish bacne and treat bumps on your arms or thighs

Use a body wash containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide to treat acne breakouts on your back. It will kill bacteria and unclog pores. Also, you need to treat the goose- bumpy skin on your arms and thighs, the condition known as keratosis pelaris. Use skin washes and lotions that contain glycolic or lactic acids in order to exfoliate and moisturize your skin.

Exercise regularly

Exercise and workout is a great way to revitalize your body and skin as it increases blood flow, keeping the cells healthy and allowing them to carry nutrients all around the body while removing harmful free radicals.

Maintain a healthy diet

And last but not the least; maintain a healthy, balanced, nutrient-rich diet. After all, how you care for your body internally affects how you look outside to a great extent. Stock up foods that are beneficial for your hair and skin and avoid those that may cause harm.

These were the few tips that can help you revamp and revitalize your skin in a very effective way. Don’t wait, get started today. After all, summer is just around the corner. Good luck, ladies!
